Subject: Tropical Storm Watch: Your Immediate HR Checklist

Action Item: As we are currently under a Tropical Storm Watch, please ensure all staff communication channels are active. Your people are your priority.

​

1. Urgent Preparedness: The Three ‘Must-Dos’
Communicate Clearly: Have you sent the emergency contact/hotline numbers to all staff today? HR must ensure every employee knows the correct procedure for reporting their safety and absence.

​

Define Policies: Remind employees immediately of the company policy for severe weather leave and payroll continuity. Clarity reduces anxiety and protects the organisation.

​

Secure Records: HR's most critical files (contracts, payroll, compliance data) must be backed up to a secure cloud platform. Do this before the weather deteriorates to ensure business continuity.

 

2. When the Storm Passes: HR's Next Step
Prioritise Wellbeing: As soon as it is safe, initiate a staff check-in to confirm everyone’s safety. Be compassionate—this goes far beyond just counting heads. Connect staff to Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) if available.
